Privacy policy

Last updated 12 October 2026

Placecard is an online ticketing service for seated events. Event organisers use it to sell tickets, and guests use it to choose seats, pay and receive tickets. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

  • When you book: your name, email address, optional mobile number, the names you give for your guests, the seats you choose and your order details.
  • When you pay: payments are handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of the payment and limited details such as the card brand, but never your full card number.
  • At the event: when a ticket is scanned we record the time and which staff member checked it in.
  • When you contact us: your name, email, organisation and message.
  • Organisers and their staff: account details, and the business and bank details they give Stripe to receive payouts (held by Stripe, not by us).
  • When you browse: technical information such as your browser, device and the pages you visit (see "Cookies and analytics").

How we use it

  • To hold your seats, take your payment and issue your tickets.
  • To email your tickets, booking updates and refund notices.
  • To check guests in at the door and prevent ticket misuse.
  • To give the event's organiser the details they need to run their event.
  • To answer your enquiries, provide support and keep the service secure.
  • To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it to send you marketing.

Who we share it with

  • The event organiser you buy from, who sees your booking and guest names and may contact you about the event. Their own privacy practices apply to how they use it.
  • Stripe, which processes payments and pays organisers.
  • Resend, which delivers our emails.
  • Laravel Cloud, which hosts the service and its database in Sydney, Australia.
  • Google Analytics, which helps us measure how the site is used.
  • Apple and Google, only if you choose to add a ticket to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

Some of these providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries. We use reputable providers that protect information under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep your seat hold and checkout working and to keep staff signed in. On our public pages we also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are popular. Google Analytics does not run on ticket, order or checkout pages. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's analytics opt-out add-on.

Keeping it secure

Information travels over encrypted connections, access to organiser tools is limited to authorised staff, and card details never reach our servers. Each ticket link works like a ticket itself, so only share it with the guest it belongs to.

How long we keep it

We keep booking records for as long as needed to run the event and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, and for handling refunds or disputes afterwards. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it.

Your choices

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we're not required to keep it. Contact us and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
